Antique Kunzite
Diamond Necklace/Brooch
Description:
An Edwardian kunzite and diamond pendant necklace with a detachable brooch fitting, circa 1910. The step cut kunzite is surrounded by a frame of old mine cut diamonds, claw set in a millegrained platinum setting, suspended from an articulated row of diamonds with a trinity knot to the centre, to a platinum trace link chain. The chain is detachable and can be converted into a brooch using the brooch fitting. It is supplied in its original case by Collingwood and Co.

Director's Notes:
Kunzite is named after the renowned American gemmologist George Frederick Kunz, who was the first to identify it as a variety of the mineral spodumene around 1902. It ranges from soft pink to violet in colour, which it gets from trace amounts of manganese. The colour can be light or intense, with the deeper colours being more valued. It is sourced from Afghanistan, Brazil, Madagascar, and San Diego county, California.
