About the Item
Bold and richly symbolic, this antique locket (circa 1890–1910) features a majestic lion’s head sculpted in solid 10 karat gold, its fierce jaws gripping a glittering 0.12 carat old European cut diamond—a symbol of strength, courage, and nobility.
The lion’s intense gaze is set with ruby eyes, though one was replaced at some point with a red glass cabochon, a historic restoration that remains visually harmonious and unobtrusive. The dimensional detail in the mane and facial expression reflects the exceptional goldsmithing of the late Victorian to early Edwardian era.
The locket opens smoothly and measures approximately 2 inches from the top of the bail to the bottom by 1.5 inches wide when closed. It is in very good antique condition, with only minor indentations on the reverse, consistent with age and use. The gold has been professionally verified using X-ray fluorescence (XRF) and acid testing to confirm 10K purity.
