About the Item
This is a Museum Quality Antique Edwardian Locket Necklace from the estate of Ambassador Evan Galbraith. The magnificent locket (one of two matching lockets from the estate) has exquisite robin's egg blue guilloche enamel with a white enamel target surround. In the center of the locket is an exquisite snowflake design in Platinum set with Rose Cut Diamonds. The snowflake design has milgrain beaded borders in platinum which is set with exquisite rose cut diamonds. The reverse of the locket has the same gorgeous guilloche enamel with white surround. The locket is 14 Karat Gold and is a disc form locket of the highest quality. The front and back of the locket slide open to reveal the photo compartments. The inserts to hold the photos in place are present on each side. The craftsmanship of the locket is exquisite and the sliding disc design absolutely wonderful. The locket feels wonderful in the hand. The locket hangs from from a beautiful period chain with alternating bar and circle links in 14 Karat Gold. The locket and chain are Edwardian - Victorian jewels and date to circa 1900. We have the matching locket necklace with a central floret motif in another listing.
PROVENANCE
The locket necklace is from the estate of Ambassador and Mrs. Evan G. Galbraith. Evan Galbraith was the United States Ambassador to France from 1981 to 1985 and the Secretary of Defense Representative to Europe and NATO from 2002 to 2007. Ambassador Galbraith and Marie "Bootsie" Rockwell were married in 1964. Mrs. Galbraith was known for her exquisite style and her elegant period jewels.
The locket is 1 inch (26mm) in diameter. With the bale the locket is 1 1/4 inches long.
The chain is 15 inches (38cm) long.
