About the Item
A Victorian diamond, silver, and yellow gold brooch and pendant, comprising one large old mine cut diamond, fifty-two smaller old mine cut diamonds, and fifteen rose cut diamonds, set in silver, and backed in 15 karat yellow gold, with detachable pendant and brooch fittings.
This striking Victorian piece is wearable as both a brooch and a pendant. The brooch is centred upon a large old mine cut diamond, which is bright, white, and sparkly, and held within a pinched silver setting. The large central diamond is surrounded by 8 further old mine cut diamonds of good size, forming the petals of a flower, and creating a daisy motif. The diamonds are bright, white, sparkly, and well-matched with one another. A circular motif, alternately set with old mine cut diamonds held in shield shaped settings, and raised in bezel settings, surrounds this daisy motif. This is surrounded by a further circular motif, alternately set with old mine cut diamonds held within fleur-de-lys style settings, and heart-shaped bezel settings. To the circular brooch, a hinged ring is attached, allowing the pendant bale to be added by way of a hook. A fleur-de-lys shaped bale is set with sparkling old mine cut and rose cut diamonds, with a significant pendant loop allowing for wear with a substantial chain if desired. A foliate surmount is attached, set with sparkling old mine cut and rose cut diamonds, connecting the bale with the circular brooch section, and allowing them to appear as one. The brooch is fitted with a detachable brooch fitting, in yellow gold, which is fastened with a screw fitting. The brooch/pendant is in great condition and is of extremely high quality. The brooch fitting is not original to the piece, as this had unfortunately been lost to time. Alongside my jeweller, we came up with a design that worked with the piece, still allowing it to rest in its fitted case, and working as similarly to the original as possible. Wear and tear acquiescent with age.
The brooch measures 36.5mm long, 36.5mm wide, and 13.5mm deep (excluding pin and fittings).
The pendant measures 66mm long, 36.5mm wide, and 13.5mm deep.

Your brooch will be placed in its original fitted case, with blue velvet and aqua satin interior, the inside of the lid printed in gold with “Shepheard ???? (?Reed) Diamond Merchants Goldsmiths
Watchmakers, 104, Regent St W.” According to the 18th October 1889 edition of the London Gazette, the partnership of “Shepheard and Reed” was dissolved in 1889, but it would appear the Shepheard maintained the Regent Street address and continued trading. The velvet has worn from the outside of the box.
