About the Item
A Victorian pearl, and yellow gold brooch, comprising eighteen seed pearls, in 15 karat yellow gold.
This lovely Victorian locket is engraved with a pretty floral and scrolling design across the front. The locket is engraved with scrolling, star and circle designs to the back, in a concentric formation. At the centre, there is a shield-shaped cartouche, which could be engraved with initials. To the front, is a seed pearl set garter or belt motif, which symbolised eternity, loyalty, and strength. It is likely this locket would have once contained photos of the wearers spouse and / or children. The locket opens on a hinge, to reveal 2 compartments. One compartment is complete with an oval metal bezel, used to hold photos in place. The glass is no longer present. The locket sports a sturdy jump ring bale, allowing for wear with a chain. The locket is in good condition. Wear and tear acquiescent with age. Please note, the chain you see in the photos is for display only, and not included.
