About the Item
This Victorian heart pendant was created out of a black pressed wood composite in the 1880's. The design shows an inner heart and a palm leaf surrounded by an outer heart decorated with impressed circles. the heart is decorated with stylized rays on the outer edge.
Black jewellery became highly fashionable, not only for mourning, after Queen Victoria lost her beloved husband Prince Albert in 1861. The queen remained in mourning throughout her whole life.
