About the Item
This ancient cross is in 18kt yellow gold and Italian made. Beautiful lace work has been done on the front of the pendant. Lace, a decorative openwork web on fabric, was first developed in Europe during the sixteenth century. The finest lace involved the talents and skills of three distinct specialists: the artist who created the designs on paper, the pattern maker who translated the designs onto parchment, and the lace maker who worked directly on the patterns to make the lace. On gold, this work that resembles lace so much is called "openwork". Openwork uses piercing techniques to produce decorative motifs by cutting away metal on a flat area or band to allow the passage of light.
This 18kt yellow gold cross is in good used condition, with normal signs of wear commensurate with the age of the jewel.
