About the Item
Here we have an outstanding necklace crafted during the pinnacle of the Art Nouveau movement. This rare and unique piece has been curated from a warm 18ct yellow gold into the shape of a dragonfly and displays a breathtaking use of the plique-a-jour enamelling method. The French word plique-a-jour translates to “letting in daylight”; it is a technique used dating back to 6th century AD. This method could take up to a few months to finish and is a very difficult and arduous process. During the Art Nouveau period, the French revived the plique-a-jour technique, and this dragonfly pendant is a stunning example of the fine French craftsmanship produced in that era.
This one of a kind piece further showcases a rich pink sapphire, rounded natural pearl and rose cut diamond set head, body and wings. Each stone is harmoniously set alongside the beautiful bluish green and white enamel to perfectly mimimc the natural life-like dragonfly wings. This delicate pendant is finally suspended from a slim matching cable chain.
