About the Item
THIS IS A MUSEUM QUALITY NATURAL MINED OLD MINE CUT DIAMOND AND EUROPEAN CUT DIAMOND AND BAROQUE FRESHWATER PEARL PENDANT NECKLACE IN SILVER TOPPED 14 KARAT GOLD. THE ANTIQUE BELLE EPOQUE, VICTORIAN NECKLACE IS FRENCH. THE NECKLACE DATES TO CIRCA 1840-1880.
The antique French cross motif pendant is a spectacular jewel. It dates to the Victorian, Belle Epoque period, circa 1840-1880. The pendant features six absolutely magnificent baroque freeform freshwater pearls. The center pearl is 16mm in diameter. The bottom pearl is 17mm in length. The pearls have extraordinary natural form and variation and are magnificent examples of freeform freshwater pearls. In the cross motif they are particularly dynamic and beautiful.
The pearls are set within halos of antique Old Mine Cut and Old European Cut Diamonds of great beauty. These antique diamonds are of superb quality. They are very white, H-I-J color, and predominantly eye clean with VS - SI clarity. Surrounding the center pearl is a halo of 12 sparkling white diamonds. Four larger diamonds are set between the pearls in elegant trefoil settings. The larger diamonds are approximately 4mm in length. The diamonds are set in silver atop gold as was the custom of the early antique jewels. White gold and platinum were not available, so in order to increase the reflectivity of the diamonds they were set in the only white metal available, silver.
The pendant has French touchmarks for 14 Karat Gold as well as a maker's mark.
The pendant hangs from a gorgeous antique 14 Karat Gold chain of 20.5 inches in length.
This is one of the most beautiful antique diamond and pearl necklaces we have seen. The very unusual, large and dramatic freshwater pearls with the sparkling halos of very fine antique diamonds create a museum quality jewel. This stunning, fine and impressive antique Victorian pendant has been crafted in 9k yellow gold and silver.
The pierced decorated pendant has a central interlacing scrolling design, accented with a central stylised floral design comprised of five impressive feature Old European cut diamonds, in a combination of claw and millegrain bezel settings.
The symmetrical silver set frame is further ornamented with twenty-nine pavé set Dutch cut diamonds.
