About the Item

This hand-stamped sterling silver cross pendant is crafted by Navajo silversmith Alvin Lee. Measuring 3" x 3½", the cross showcases five Broken Arrow turquoise cabochons set in finely detailed silver. The ½" bale brings the total length to 4", with a 5/16" bale diameter. Stone Measurements • Center: ¾" x ½" • Top: 7/8" x 5/8" • Bottom: 1⅛" x 5/8" • Left: 13/16" x ½" • Right: 7/8" x 9/16" The Broken Arrow Mine, located in Esmeralda County, Nevada, is one of the newer sources of American turquoise, opened in 2005 and owned by David Otteson. The mine produces variscite, turquoise, and varaquoise known for their striking two-tone greens accented with touches of blue. This material is exceptionally hard—rated between 6.5 and 7.5 on the Mohs scale—and takes a beautiful, high polish. About the Artist Alvin Lee (Navajo), from Shiprock, New Mexico, is an accomplished silversmith and a cousin of fellow artist Albert Jake.
