Cancer Jean Després Pendant in silver. Round pendant representing the Cancer zodiac sign in polished silver, on a hammered silver background, typical of Jean Després' work. The motif evokes crab claws, rendered in a schematic and minimalist style. Modernist pendant from the 1960s, signed Jean Després, France.
Crab hallmark, Després master hallmark, DESPRES signature with a point on the reverse of the pendant.

Jean Després (1889-1980), a goldsmith from Avallon, is a major figure of Art Deco in France. After training at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, he drew inspiration from his experience as a mechanic during the First World War, adopting industrial and geometric forms. His creations, often in silver and featuring a distinctive hammered finish, stand out for their modernity and refined style. Based in Avallon, he became a leading figure in artist-designed jewelry, transforming goldsmithing into modern art and attracting the attention of collectors worldwide.
