About the Item
Garnet and Diamond Cross Pendant with eleven square 5mm reddish garnets. There are 12 round diamonds weighing 1/3ct H color and VS1 clarity. The garnets are set individulally into oxidized silver and the diamonds into 18kt oxidized 18kt yellow gold. The bale is wide enough to accompany a 5.5mm width chain or narrower. A chain is not included.
The measurements are 2.4” length and 2” width (61mm length 50.8mm width). The Castellani and Double C name plates are in 18kt yellow and affixed to the side gallery.
Castellani’s Jewellery from the 19th Century is in museums:
British Museum; Victoria
Albert Museum; Metropolitan Museum of Art; The Smithsonian’s Cooper Hewitt Museum to name a few); exhibitions as well as in private collections.
Fortunato Pio Castellani can be called the "Father of Archeological Revival Jewellery". In the mid 1800's in Rome, Castellani had the entree to visit the Ancient Etruscan ruins. He was able to study these Ancient designs as well as other Ancient Mediterranean civilizations’ jewellery and started to create and re-design under his brand.
