Diamond Carved Rock Crystal Flower Blossom Necklace by Baumstein and Feder

About the Item

Offered is a lovely mid-century pendant by esteemed NYC jeweler Baumstein Feder - featuring an elegant hand carved rock crystal flower blossom set with fiery diamonds, suspended from a vintage gold chain. Measuring a little over 3/4 of an inch in diameter, (19 mm) the flower has five petals, all with a translucent, frosted finish and nice dimension (the blossom also rotates). Three round brilliant cut diamonds are set in 14K white gold at the center, with a total estimated carat weight of approximately .09 carats total. Of excellent quality, the diamonds are bright, white and fiery, with very good clarity. (judged to be G color and VS range clarity) I see no damages to the diamonds and the settings/prongs also remain in very good condition. The rock crystal shows a bit of wear when examined closely - a few tiny "flea bites" along the edges seen with magnification and one small chip at the edge of a petal. To the reverse of the flower, the piece is marked with Baumstein Feder's makers mark: "BaumF" and with a mark of "14K." The decorative gold bail is original and in fine condition. I found the necklace in a New England estate - the rectangular link chain that is shown is the one the pendant has been on for many years, though it may not be original to the pendant. It tests as 12K rosy gold with a higher karat finish and a spring ring clasp marked "585" for 14K gold. (the rosy gold is somewhat visible under magnification) It measures approximately 20 inches in length; together with the pendant the finished weight is 8.38 grams. Baumstein Feder were known for their beautiful designs and high quality - I've seen a number of their rock crystal brooches, but the pendants are very scarce.

Condition:
Wear consistent with age and use. Minor losses. Overall, very good condition - there is some slight wear to the edges of the rock crystal, mostly seen with magnification. One small chip can be seen at the edge of a petal if one knows where to look, but it s mild and blends in nicely.
