About the Item
A fine 19th. century French Paste
Porcelain portrait pendant.
The central Rennaisance style portrait of a noblewoman is finely hand painted on an oval porcelain plaque. The portrait of the beautiful Rennaisance Lady shows the stunning jewellery and the intricate clothing of the Rennaisance era from the 16th Century.
The plaque is set in 15ct gold set within a circlet of large curved high Quality French Paste stones. The paste stones are clear and vibrant, set in a silver plated 15ct. gold frame.
The pendant comes in its original leather and purple velvet box, Marked R Behrendt, Kimberley, South Africa. Where it would have been retailed .
Size: 2.1/2 inch x 2 inch.
A most attractive and lovely subject with fine art work set in a curved Paste frame hugging the sides creating a lovely dimensional form to this rare and beautiful piece.
This miniature is likely copied from a 16th Century oil portrait of this noble woman. Porcelain plaques were not introduced until the late 18th Century, prior to that they would have been painted on ivory.
This is definitely a collectors piece or a wonderful eye catching piece for display in a cabinet, with some mystery as to whom this wonderful young Lady might have been !
