About the Item
This sterling silver cross pendant is hand-stamped and crafted by Navajo silversmith Paul J. Begay. The cross measures 2¼" x 3" and features six Easter Blue turquoise cabochons arranged in a balanced, traditional design. A ¾" hand-stamped bale brings the total length to 3¾", with a ½" bale diameter.

The Easter Blue Mine, located northwest of Tonopah, Nevada near the Royston district, has also produced turquoise under the names Blue Mountain and Blue Gem. Discovered in 1907, the mine was never a major producer and changed ownership several times. Early turquoise was a fine, vivid blue found in thin veins; later material displayed appealing blue-green tones accented by light to dark brown matrix. Owing to its limited output, Easter Blue turquoise remains both distinctive and collectible.
About the Artist
Paul Begay began making jewelry at age 32, learning foundational techniques from local Zuni artists. He later worked alongside renowned Navajo silversmith Harry Morgan during the period when Morgan operated a production studio known for its classic “old pawn” style jewelry.
