About the Item
This original Edwardian diamond necklace is made with approximately 1.00 carat total weight of rose cut diamonds in platinum. Rose cut diamonds were designed to sparkle in candlelight, as they were first created in the 16th century when only royalty could wear diamonds. Rose cut diamonds' large, wide facets performed well in low light conditions especially the candle light of the 16th century. Each rose cut diamond is completely different in shape, size, and color. The diamonds are backed by foil, foiling was a common technique for enhancing the brilliance of diamonds during the Edwardian period. Set in platinum, the diamonds are bezel set accented with milgrain edges which became popular during the Edwardian era. The diamonds are set in platinum and hang from a 17" white gold chain with a spring ring clasp. During the early 20th century woman would wear their fine diamond necklaces to the popular events for the upper-class - balls, soirees, and opera performances. The photos do not do justice to the sparkle of these diamonds!!!
The necklace is 17 inches long. The foiled rose cut portion of the necklace has the following measurements: almost 2.25 inches long and .75 inches wide.
