About the Item
A fine Art Nouveau enamel and pearl flower pendant, the shaded blue, white and yellow enamelled flower head with brilliant-cut diamond centre, to each side a fan of leaves enamelled in shades from green to cream set with pearls at intervals, below four leaves and green enamelled stem and roots set with pearls, at the top a green enamelled hinged pendant loop, all enamelled on yellow gold, measuring 10cm x 8cm, American, circa 1900, gross weight 32 grams.
An exquisite Art Nouveau floral brooch. The style of Art Nouveau, meaning ‘new art’ began in the 1890s in Europe. At the 1900 Paris Exposition Universalle, a large exhibit of Art Nouveau jewellery and homewares was shown to the public. The style is characterized by sinuous forms inspired by nature. This brooch features a beautiful enamel flower with a lively diamond at its centre. The flower is flanked by leaves that are set with lustrous pearls. Below the flower are further leaves and a typically Art Nouveau motif set with more creamy pearls. This piece was made in the United States in around 1900 and exemplifies Art Nouveau style at its finest. It comes from the collection of Bentley
