About the Item

Magnificent late 18th century French pendant. A fabulous and rare master-piece of jewelry, made in France during the Georgian period (1714-1830), circa late 18th early 19th centuries. This gorgeous colorful pendant has been carefully crafted with impeccable attention to details in solid yellow gold of 18 karats, with a thin layer of silver on top for the settings of the diamonds. It is suited on top with a movable hanging bale to wear into a chain and all the gemstones settings are finished with millegrain patterns. The design is made up of two elements that harmonize wonderfully. The upper part is adorned with flowery motifs around an oval panel which is mounted with a gem-set star rosette and decorated with a vivid purple hot enamel, applied to a guilloché patterned surface. The lower part hangs freely in the shape of a drop and is embellished with gems. The entire piece is mounted with 55 Old Rose cut diamonds, with a combined weight of 2.25 carats approximate and a pear cabochon cut (5.2 x 12 x 4.5 mm) of a natural Russian purple Amethyst of about 2.01 carats. Has a total weight of 28.3 Grams and a measures of 32 mm by 72 mm (1.26 x 2.83 Inches). Note: All diamonds and the type of cuts present on this piece are dated back to the 18th century. Note: Guilloché is used in fine jewelry to enhance the appearance of brooches, rings and pendants. Guilloché enamel refers to metal pieces that have been given the Guilloché treatment and then covered with a translucent layer of enamel, giving the geometric patterns underneath the enamel a colorful hue. Note: Millegrain is a jewelry technique which refers to the textural effect of a close-set line of metal beads that are typically used as a border on the edges or bezels of jewelry. Note: Purple combines the calm stability of blue and the fierce energy of red. The color purple is often associated with royalty, nobility, luxury, power, and ambition. Amethyst represent purification and connection to spiritual and divine. The meaning of amethyst is attached to serenity, understanding, trust and grace. Our remarks: Georgian, Baroque, Louis XV style. Collateral: It is accompanied by a presentation jewelry box. Condition: The overall condition of this pendant is excellent. Beside the little normal wear, there is no damage to the gold. All the gemstones, are secured in the settings. This pendant has been carefully inspected to guarantee the condition and authenticity. Period: 1865 Provenance: United Kingdom Dimensions: 7,5 x 3,8 cm Weight: 15,93 gr This yellow gold Holbeinesque pendant is characterized by a central Siberian amethyst of approximately 10 carats, surrounded by rose cut diamonds and polychrome cloisonné enamels, embellished with further rose cut diamonds, while the external profiling of the pendant is characterized by minute natural pearls; the lower part, however, is completed by a square-shaped pendant in which the diamonds and cloisonné enamels return. The back of the pendant, however, still deserves attention as it is finely engraved with an arabesque motif which gives further preciousness to the object.
