An authentic Roman silver coin from 148 BC, depicting the Goddess Roma, has been set in this 18 kt gold pendant. On the reverse of the coin, we see the Dioscuri.
In ancient Roman religion, the Goddess Roma was a female deity of remarkable beauty who personified the city of Rome and, more broadly, the Roman state. Roman political and religious ideals were represented through the image of Roma in various forms—coins, sculptures, and architectural motifs. Although her representations were influenced by other goddesses of the time (particularly Athena), the Goddess Roma emerged as a distinct and powerful symbol of Rome.
