About the Item

This is a truly one of a kind pendant of a coin of emperor Gordian III. I carefully added two aquamarines and one sapphire to the 18k setting. The coin was acquired from a premier ancient coin dealer. To appreciate the pendant's size, the relief of the coin and the shape of the bail, see the picture showing the coin next to a US quarter (will post soon). The coin was first set in a gold bezel, which was then hammered over the edge of both sides. This was then sanded and polished. This pendant is built to last. Comes with certificate which guarantees authenticity and provides background information (listed below) on the acquired coin -- Coin information: Gordian III - silver denarius with gems (sapphire and aquamarin). Obverse: IMP GORDIANVS PIVS FEL AVG, laureate, draped and cuirassed bust right Reverse: IOVIS - STATOR, Jupiter standing facing, head right, holding scepter and thunderbolt Struck 240 AD Gordian III, 29 July 238 - 25 February 244 A.D. Gordian III was the grandson of Gordian I and nephew of Gordian II. He was proclaimed Caesar shortly before the murder of Balbinus and Pupienus, and he succeeded them. Little is known about his reign. In 242 A.D. he embarked on a campaign against the Persian Kingdom which was so successful the Persians had to evacuate Mesopotamia. However, Gordian III died shortly after, through illness or the machinations of his Praetorian prefect and successor, Philip I.

Indian, Post-Kushan (Jammu and Kashmir) - Kidarite Successors, Vinayaditya Obverse: abstract Kushan style king standing left; ka in Brahmi to left; to right, jaya and monogram of Kidara in Brahmi Reverse: Abstract Ardoxsho seated facing, holding filleted investiture garland and cornucopia; ditya in Brahmi to left, śri vinaya in Brahmi down right Struck 5th-7th century The Kidarites, or Kidara Huns, were a dynasty that ruled Bactria and adjoining parts of Central Asia and South Asia in the 4th and 5th centuries. The Kidarites belonged to a complex of peoples known collectively in India as the Huna, and in Europe as the Chionites (from the Iranian names Xwn/Xyon), and may even be considered as identical to the Chionites. The 5th century Byzantine historian Priscus called them Kidarite Huns, or "Huns who are Kidarites". The Huna/Xionite tribes are often linked, albeit controversially, to the Huns who invaded Eastern Europe during a similar period. They are entirely different from the Hephthalites, who replaced them about a century later. Ardoksho (Bactrian script Αρδοχϸο), also Romanised as Ardochsho, Ardokhsho and Ardoxsho, the Iranic goddess of wealth was a female deity of the Kushan Empire...
