THIS IS A STUNNING ANTIQUE GRIFFIN OR DRAGON ART NOUVEAU BEAUX ARTS RENAISSANCE REVIVAL PENDANT NECKLACE WITH A GORGEOUS ART GLASS CENTER.
This is a beautiful Beaux Arts - Art Nouveau - Belle Epoque Griffin or Dragon or Sea Serpent pendant in the Jugendstil, Renaissance Revival style and dates to circa 1860-1890. It depicts a wonderful pair of griffin or dragon or winged sea serpents surrounding an art glass globe or egg center with a pendant pearl drop. The faces, bodies, and wings of the griffins are extraordinary with magnificent metal work. The tail of the griffins have fabulous engraved scales and wonderful form. The pendant is a wonderful large size. The pendant is brass or bronze or silver gilt as was very typical of the art nouveau jewels. The reverse has a leather back.
The workmanship on the dragons is very fine with great detail. I love the three dimensional element of the jewel. The overall effect of the detailed metal work, the griffin motif and the lovely gem in this early antique piece is truly magical. It is very rare to find early art nouveau, jugendstil griffin dragon jewels and this one is a masterpiece.
