THIS IS A STUNNING BEAUX ARTS BELLE EPOQUE GOLD PENDANT OF A GRIFFIN OR WINGED DRAGON WITH A STUNNING ANTIQUE OPAL CURLED WITHIN THE TAIL.
This is a beautiful Beaux Arts - Art Nouveau - Belle Epoque pendant and dates to circa 1860-1890. It depicts a wonderful griffin or dragon with the head of a lion and a winged fish or mermaid tail. The face of the lion is extraordinary with magnificent gold work. The wings and body are absolutely stunning. The griffin holds a round natural mined Opal in its tail. The opal has blue, green, orange and yellow fire. The tail of the griffin has fabulous engraved scales and wonderful form. The pendant is a wonderful delicate size.
The gold workmanship on the griffin dragon is very fine with great detail. The overall effect of the detailed gold work, the griffin motif and the lovely opal gem in this early antique piece is truly magical.
The pendant is 9 Karat gold.
The pendant is 18 mm long including the top loop and 13 mm long without the top loop. It is 10mm wide.
The pendant weighs .72 grams.
