About the Item
Antique cross early 19th Century cross of approximately 30 cts. natural bright lemon yellow Citrines. The larger oval cut stones have fancy pavilion facets which reflect the light well. The 20 stones are both old mine cut in an oval shape, they are set with elaborate prongs. Large and highly decorative, this cross, in fine condition, is a beautiful example of early to mid 19th century gold work. Measuring 3 inches including the bale. We have shown this cross on a contemporary gold chain which is not included. We can provide a simple gold 16th inch chain, if desired. We will provide a quote for consideration.
All items sold are accompanied by a detailed appraisal by our gemologist, as well as all original GIA certificates, if specified in listing. As always, we guarantee all of pieces. Each piece of jewelry arrives in a finely gift-wrapped presentation box.
We have made every attempt to photograph our jewelry with the proper lighting conditions to display our pieces as they are in real life. However no amount of effort on our end can give the reader realistic colors if the receiving system is imprecise. For realism in color, "It takes two to tango".
We have also photographed our pieces on different colors and different body types to give our viewers as much information needed to make a good decision. If questions arise that we have not addressed here, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Unless stated otherwise, or stated exactly; all weights and grades are approximated by our Gemologist using both GIA Instruments as well as instruments used as a standard and accepted practice.
Also, all metals are approximated within 1%. This allows for the legal tolerance in the jewelry industry. For example, 14K signifies 58.3% gold, jewelers can legally label a piece as 14K as long as it is above 13K, or 54.2%.

Antique Necklace hand made in 18K yellow gold with a serpent and heart motif, the heart and serpent have fancy cut red garnets and the serpent's eyes and nose are rose cut diamonds.
This necklace is in fine condition, 16.25 inches long with the hanging section of the serpent and heart is 1.5 inches. The weight is 30.6 grams. Please note: Our model in the photographs has a medium to large necklace size and hand size. This antique necklace bears no marks. We have performed an acid test to confirm its gold purity as being 18K (.750).
When in the late 1830's Prince Albert of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha (in Germany) proposed to his cousin Queen Victoria with a ring in the form of a snake, he soon became Prince Consort and Victorians soon came to consider serpent motif jewels to be symbols of eternal love.
And, when Albert died in 1860, Victoria, as if to demonstrate her eternal commitment, entered a period of mourning and formal remembrance that lasted for the rest of her life, thereby publicly showing her love decades after Albert's death.
