Featuring an 18.5 x 13.3 x 5.5 double cabochon of highly translucent, bright apple green natural and untreated jadeite jade from Burma, this 14K yellow gold, jade and diamond pendant is just spectacular. The luminous, exceedingly high-quality jade is being faithfully guarded by a swirling dragon rendered in rich, buttery yellow gold. The dragon holds a brilliant, bright .15-carat diamond in its mouth. The two green eyes -which I originally assumed were glass- have tested as natural emerald.
Although this pendant is Art Nouveau or even Victorian in style, I believe it was created in the 1960s. The jade is original to the piece, has clearly never been removed to be polished, and thus displays its high-gloss, post-industrial-revolution (1950s (China) polish. The workmanship is decidedly old-school here; not a millimeter of the gold has not been expertly worked, both front and back. You will not find even the smallest neglected portion on this pendant and that's a rare thing.
Examine both sides, and you will see deep, rich detailing rendered skillfully and entirely by hand. This is a fine jewel, but because it is unsigned (except for a metal fineness mark), we cannot know who created it. The pendant measures 58mm x 22mm. It's a weighty, substantial pendant that holds a rare and impressively large cabochon of light apple green jadeite.
The pendant ships with certification from Stone Group Lab stating that the jade is untreated jadeite from Burma (Myanmar).
