About the Item
So translucent that it's nearly semi-transparent, this early Art Deco era (circa 1920) natural and untreated Burmese jadeite jade pendant has been carved to depict a grouping of melons or gourds. The lines of the carving are clean, sketch-like in their simplicity. A brilliant choice by the lapidary artist because this allows the design of the carving to remain a few steps behind the magnificently unique coloring and high translucency.
Lake Jade or Lake Water Jade is a name sometimes given to jade that has a greenish-bluish color. But here, we have a central tangle of what appears to be sticks, dried grasses, clumped together in the center, making this "lake jade" pendant all the more lake-like.
It took me a long time, but I eventually located a perfectly matched 6.85mm hand-carved jadeite bead with an inclusion that perfectly compliments the "branches" in the pendant. A handmade platinum wire bail completes the piece.
The jade alone measures 38.69mm tall, 24.82mm wide, and 4.07mm thick. With the bail, the height becomes 56.58mm.
Luminous, watery, magical. This is a truly extraordinary pendant. Ships with a certificate from Stone Group Labs stating that the jade is untreated jadeite from Burma (Myanmar). Chain not included.
