About the Item

This immaculate and beautiful locket dates from c.1900 and represents the garland style so typical of early 20th century jewels. Condition Report: Excellent The Details... This locket is constructed from silver. The bail is stamped with the Martin Mayer mark (a wheel with a star above it, flanked by 2 m's) and 2 indecipherable hallmarks. The jump ring is then stamped with '935' and what could possibly be a dragonfly stamp - this is the mark of the Meyle and Mayer factory, which could indicate that the 2 German companies collaborated or that the jump ring is from a separate Meyle and Mayer piece. The locket is circular and large in shape and detailed with a pale yellow Guilloché enamel front and back. The front of the locket features enamelled floral swag motifs with gold scrolled accents. The locket opens and closes well to reveal 2 compartments with clear plastic covers so that tokens or photographs can be placed in both sections. The diameter of the locket is 3.5cm. A Short History... This locket is a lovely example of garland style jewellery from the early 20th century. Designs were typified by ribbons, laurel wreaths, bows, swags, knots and tassels creating soft, dripping lines in jewels that had previously been quite structured. The garland style borrowed motifs from 18th century jewellery design and injected them with greater fluidity of line. The Martin Mayer factory was established in Mayence, Germany, in 1887. In 1939, the firm was dissolved. In their relatively short time in business, they produced some beautiful pieces evocative of the design movements occurring during the times they were constructed. Mayer jewels are therefore sought after by collectors and those passionate about 19th and 20th century design. Wear it With... Add this locket to your favourite chain and add other charms to compliment it too.

This wonderful example of Victorian jewellery was created in 1876. It can be worn as a pendant or a brooch. Condition Report: Excellent The Details... Constructed from 9ct gold, this pendant features an oval porcelain plaque hand-painted with a miniature portrait. The reverse of the plaque is signed by the artist. Their name is difficult to decipher due to ageing. However, their initials appear to be L and M. It is dated 1876. The piece features a bail, so that it can be worn as a pendant. It also features a fastening mechanism, so that it may be worn as a brooch. The pin is attached to the brooch with a tube hinge and the brooch fastens with a traditional safety catch. The piece measures 5.5cm x 4.5cm. A Short History... Whilst the portrait in this piece may appear to depict a young girl with windswept hair, it is actually a portrait inspired by a painting by German artist Gustav Carl Ludwig Richter...

1920s Egyptian Revival Silver Gilt and Enamel Vintage Charms Necklace
Located in Skelmersdale, GB
This beautiful necklace is emblematic of the evocative 1920s Egyptian Revival aesthetic and was made in France. Condition Report: Very Good - A slight kink in the chain and a tiny bend at the base of one of the charms. This is consistent with age and use and does not detract from the appeal of the piece. The Details... Although un-hallmarked, this necklace is most likely constructed from silver gilt. It features a delicate herringbone chain. Suspended from the chain is a selection of Egyptian inspired charms. There are Ankhs, Lotus flowers and Hamsa hand symbols. There are also three postage stamp charms detailed with skiff boats on the Nile and the goddess, Hathor. The necklace fastens with a bolt ring and measures 38cm in length. A Short History... In 1922, Howard Carter discovered the tomb of Tutankhamun and, thereby, ignited a Western fascination with Ancient Egypt which permeated the Arts. Jewellery designers created heavily stylised profiles of people and hieroglyphs taken from tomb walls, as can be seen in this necklace. Reviving Egyptian...
