This vintage French Love Medal pendant, created by the renowned Alphonse Augis atelier in the 1970s, is a true collectible piece of French jewelry. Known as the “Médaille d’Amour” or “Love Token”, this antique pendant is adorned with two small synthetic rubies and one small diamond. It carries the famous inscription “+ Qu’hier - Que Demain” (“More than yesterday, less than tomorrow”), beautifully engraved, conveying a timeless message of love.
The Love Medal was originally created in 1907 by Alphonse Augis, the grandson of the founder of the A.Augis House in Lyon, France. The pendant’s design was inspired by a famous poem by Rosemonde Rostand, “The Old Ones” (1889), which was a declaration of love to her husband, Edmond Rostand. The phrase conveys a deep and eternal commitment: “Because you see every day I love you more, today more than yesterday and much less than tomorrow.”
The Love Medal has been crafted in various styles since its inception, with this particular pendant dating from the 1950-60s, making it a rare and highly collectible item. It is signed A.A. on the right side of the front, and features the French gold hallmark of the eagle head. The medal has a concave form that makes it even more original and shiny.
