This exquisite early Victorian locket, crafted in 10 karat yellow gold, features a double-sided design with one original Daguerreotype photograph of a man on the interior—a rare and intimate glimpse into mid-19th-century life. Daguerreotypes, the earliest form of photography, are extraordinarily delicate and sensitive to light, heat, and moisture. The image, printed on silver-plated metal that has naturally oxidized with age, is intentionally set upside down so that when worn on a watch hook, it can be viewed by flipping the locket upward. Gently rock the locket back and forth to reveal the sitter’s fine details, creating a private and almost magical interaction with this personal keepsake.
The exterior of the locket is beautifully engraved with delicate filigree: one side features a two charming homes, while the other presents a scroll that could be personalized with a name or date. Measuring 1.75 inches by 1.38 inches and weighing 23.48 grams, this locket combines sentimental portraiture, intricate engraving, and historical significance—a truly captivating piece of early Victorian craftsmanship and personal history.

The Details...
Constructed from 9ct gold, this pendant features an oval porcelain plaque hand-painted with a miniature portrait. The reverse of the plaque is signed by the artist. Their name is difficult to decipher due to ageing. However, their initials appear to be L and M. It is dated 1876. The piece features a bail, so that it can be worn as a pendant. It also features a fastening mechanism, so that it may be worn as a brooch. The pin is attached to the brooch with a tube hinge and the brooch fastens with a traditional safety catch. The piece measures 5.5cm x 4.5cm.
