About the Item
This large gold plate necklace with a large frog pendant makes a true statement and was designed by titled Mimi di Niscemi (Mimi di N) in 1971. The bright gold finish is the perfect foil for the jade green glass cabochon eyes. The necklace hooks at the back for easy wear. The round twist links measure 7/8" in diameter. The three dimensional frog measures 2.5" wide and 2" tall. The back has three oval plaques. Two inscribed with Mimi di N of which one has the copyright stamp. The third plaque is inscribed 1971 very faintly. Good condition with some loss of gold tone finish primarily on the round twist links where they rubbed against the small smooth connector links.
Born in Palermo, Italy to a family of jewelers (cousin to Fulco di Verdura) Princess Mimi di Niscemi emigrated to the USA studying jewelry design and silversmithing at the Philadelphia Museum School. Princess Niscemi designed jewelry for Schiaparelli, Arnold Scaasi and Robert DeMario before starting her own jewelry company in New York City (1962). In 1968, Princess Niscemi received the Great Design in Costume Jewelry Award. In 1995, Mimi retired and production ceased under her name.
