About the Item
Mitchel Maer for Christian Dior Cherub Pendant, c.1950s
A rare 1950s Christian Dior cherub pendant created in collaboration with Mitchel Maer, the British jewellery designer who produced Dior’s couture costume pieces between 1952 and 1956. Maer’s work was completely hand-assembled in small batches and is now highly collectible due to the short production period, the fragility of early Dior costume jewellery, and the fact that much of it was destroyed or discarded by buyers unaware of its future value. This pendant features an articulated winged cherub design, a signature motif of Maer’s whimsical approach to Dior’s romantic couture era. The wings are adjustable, and the pendant includes a vivid red glass stone set into the body for contrast. Surviving examples in intact condition are scarce, making this a sought-after piece for Dior collectors and mid-century costume jewellery specialists.
