Fine, ornate antique Georgian gold cased agate seal fob pendant with a rare roses and acorns motif
Early 19th Century
Elaborate, well detailed antique gold cased agate seal fob pendant with scrolled foliate, floral and acorn designs and an attractive rectangular agate seal gemstone. Seal fob pendants from the Georgian period (1714-1837) have become highly collectible for their superb workmanship and beautiful, individual designs. Roses and Acorns, depicted in this piece, are emblematic of love and wisdom of the spirit. The exuberant syle of this seal fob dates to the George IV period (1820-1830). The gold casing technique was invented in Birmingham in 1785. It required a thick sheet of gold to be be rolled onto a silver or brass base which created a very hard-wearing and durable surface suitable for engraving and other decorative design methods. It is also known as rolled gold.
