About the Item
I suppose you could call this a real statement piece! I found the beautiful, intricately crafted pendant with its original silk and gold cord which would lovely to use but was too damaged by time and wear.
Rather than put the pendant on a gold chain I opted reference royal Indian jewelry with tumbled Zambian emerald nuggets and very lustrous baroque cultured freshwater pearls.
As a point of interest in the strands of pearls and emeralds I put stations of woven pearls, rubies and emeralds on golden wire to reflect the stones in the pendant. The necklace closes with a traditional 18kt gold hook set with a tiny sparkling white diamond.
The impressively sized pendant itself is of mixed metal with 22kt gold bezels on the rubies and outlines on the inset diamonds. The entire piece is set with rubies. The central plaque beautifully enamel in a vivid emerald green and decorated with glistening polki diamonds.
The outer edge is intricately fringed seed pearls and emerald green beads.
The back of the jewel is as lovely as the front. It is exquisitely decorated with a delicate and refined floral enamel work in tones red, green, white and rich navy blue with outlines of 22kt gold.
As this type of Indian high jewelry has been made for hundreds of years it’s very difficult to date. Because of the high quality of the jewel I would suggest that it’s somewhere in the 19th century to the first quarter of the 20th century.
