About the Item
Madonna Necklace.
A luxurious strand of hand-linked pink morganite leads the eye to a gorgeous rhodium silver filigree clasp, then drops to feature a remarkable antique French Meerschaum reliquary Ex Voto of Mary and Baby Jesus with sweet little cherubs flanking either side. This French religious antiquity (c. mid-late 1800) is carved in Meerschaum and is in excellent condition. The domed glass is also intact and has protected the soft carvings for centuries. The brass setting has the normal patina of age - showing dark spots, which have been left as is, but could easily be polished, if desired.
The remarkable filigree clasp has been designed to close in the front and additionally act as a feature of the transition between the beautiful ballet pink morganite beads and the remarkable matte finished hand-carved antique reliquary. The mixed metals of this design would allow this design to easily adapt as a layering necklace, in either gold or silver, with other collectable necklaces.
Care should be used when wearing this necklace to preserve the convex glass against hitting anything hard.
