About the Item
Rams, cast sterling silver pendant Melanie Yazzie new Navajo necklace aries
Melanie A. Yazzie (Navajo-Diné) is a highly regarded multimedia artist known for her printmaking, paintings, sculpture, and jewelry designs. She has exhibited, lectured, and taught throughout the United States, Europe, Mexico, Asia, New Zealand, and Australia.
Her work is in important museum collections worldwide. Glenn Green Galleries, her international representatives, collaborate in creating these jewelry designs that are made in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
Figures of animals, insects, and other beings are meant to protect and give strength to the wearer. The winged female figures, called pollinators, are named for her personal Navajo clans, the Salt Water and Bitter Water. They serve as symbols of empowerment and the possibility of creating good things. Yazzie sees these as her protectors.
In her artwork, she follows the Navajo philosophy of seeking beauty, balance and harmony. Some of the pendants/enhancers are shown on strands of beads that are sold separately. Contact the gallery for further information.
