About the Item
Whimsical, beautifully crafted, and full of character, this vintage fish jewel was very likely originally a charm for a bracelet during the 1950´s. Big, bold, and with the bluest eyes, his scales are hand engraved and give him the most delightful touch of character. Large scale charms such as these were added to bracelets and worn with joy and whimsy during the MidCentury period, jingling alluringly as the wearer went about her day. The perfect pendant for dopamine dressing, or to add to your very own charm bracelet to tell your story.
Crafted from solid 14K yellow gold, with turquoise-colored ceramic eyes (period-appropriate.) Weighing in at 7.2 grams, and measuring 31.1mm x 27.8mm. The wide bail will accommodate a variety of chains, ensuring versatility.
Regarding the History of MidCentury Jewelry
Following the austerity of World War II, jewels and fashion were again full of color, flamboyance and a sense of fabulous over-the-top extravagance. Bold, colored gemstones and brilliant diamonds were set into gold of all colors and platinum, palladium and white gold once again were available for jewelry creations. Jewels in this decade made a statement and rings remained large as in the 1930’s and 1940’s, but the sharp geometric lines of the Art Deco era softened into curved outlines. In the 50s and 60s, “the more the merrier,” applied not only to life, but to jewelry as well.
