About the Item
This is a stunning Antique Hardstone Cameo Pendant Brooch, framed by Rose Cut diamonds and Pearls. The pendant is Silver atop 18 Karat Gold as was the custom of the period. The pin stem has French guarantee stamps. The cameo is a hardstone cameo of extraordinary beauty. The carving is the work of a master artisan. The face is a masterpiece of artistic expression, and is carved with exquisite detail throughout, the hair is stunning, the costume drapery is gorgeous and I love the drop earring! It is so very difficult to find these magnificent hardstone cameo jewels and this one with its halo of rose cut diamonds and pearls is one of the finest. There are six pearls set around the cameo. These are most likely natural pearls. On either side of the pearls are rose cut diamonds. The diamonds are set in wonderful collet settings. The jewel dates to the Victorian - Belle Epoque period, circa 1850-1880.
The jewel has a hanging hook to be worn as a pendant as well as a pin stem to be worn as a brooch.
The pendant/brooch is 1 3/4 inches tall by 1 1/4 inches wide.

The locket features a stunning hard stone hand carved Cameo of a woman in exquisite clorthes with a beautiful face, wonderful hair and wearing a pendant earring. The work of the artisan is absolutely superb. Carving hardstone cameos requires much greater skill and artistry than shell cameos. This white and black onyx carving is magnificent.
The locket is Gold-Filled with a braided surround on the front. The reverse has an open work filigree design. The chain is a wonderful gold filled belcher link chain of great beauty. I love the design of the 3 bales with their wonderful finish.
