Indulge in a fabulous rare antique Victorian Snake Serpent Necklace with a Heart Locket Pendant hanging from its mouth. The snake necklace dating to circa 1840. The serpent snake head and heart are set with four spectacular Rose Cut Diamonds of great beauty. The eyes are round cabochon Garnets of a wonderful color. The snake and heart are adorned with vivid royal blue enamel. The necklace is 14 - 16 Karat gold. The gold work on the snake is dramatic and very special. The gold around the eyes, on the head, and around the heart is in an acanthus leaf motif creating a magical nature inspired jewel. The snake link chain is just gorgeous and evokes the body of the snake beautifully. And snake necklaces are all the rage today!
It is extremely rare to find these early snake jewels and we are so excited when we do! In the Victorian era the snake or serpent was the symbol of eternal love. It has come to symbolize sexuality, rebirth, wisdom and love.
The necklace is 17 inches long when closed.
The clasp is a later addition which extends the length of the necklace to a wearable length.
The area on the left side of the top of the head is not enameled.
The necklace is 14-16 Karat Gold.

A very rare antique Georgian to Victorian Snake Pendant Locket with a small hinged Locket opening in which to place a treasured memento, a mourning item, or possibly poison! The extraordinary Snake Pendant is 14 Karat Gold. The head and eyes of the snake are set with a pear shaped and two round faceted red Garnets. The locket portion is covered with a crystal or rock crystal cover on the front. The reverse of the locket portion opens with a lovely detailed hinge with a glass cover.
The pendant is 34mm long including the bales. Without the bales the snake is 28mm long and 12mm wide.
The interior of the locket portion is 4mm in diameter and is 4.5mm deep.
The snake is 14 Karat Gold.
The pendant weighs 1.6 grams.
