About the Item
This cool pendant used to be one of a pair of cool cufflinks. Since the supply of cool cufflinks far outweighs the demand, Eytan used one cufflink to make a ring, and the other to make this slick little slider pendant.
Originally set with a lifeless (and mostly star-less) black star sapphire, we replaced it with its much more elegant cousin, a 0.7 carat dark blue faceted sapphire.
Shaped like a shield with a wide polished, chamfered edge, the design of this pendant is an abstract reference to a traditional coat of arms. Three cuts -- "lines" -- point from the flush-set diamonds along the top to the prong-set stone at the bottom against a randomly textured center panel. The diamonds are round full cuts, about 0.06 carats each.
Finally, we added the perfect, perfect, perfect accompaniment: a semi-rigid twisted cable wire chain with a slightly frosty sheen that nicely complements the squiggly, matte finish of the center panel of the pendant.

Marks:
When this pendant was a cufflink, the purity mark was on the cufflink hardware. (There was no maker's mark.) The chain is from the high-end precious metal jewelry wholesaler Herco of Germany and is fully stamped.
Age/Condition:
The chain is new. The original cufflink was probably made in the early 1970's. While the style seems more like 1950s or 1960s, the small diamonds are full cuts and this would have been highly unusual before 1970.

Eytan Brandes assembled this graceful, sexy little pendant from three different pieces:
The 18 karat yellow gold "rose" came off of a frankly hideous 1940s brooch. (The sum of its parts has proved greater than the whole; we're still using bits torn off this monster, and the pieces -- little petals and flowers and leaves and stems -- always look great when they're separated from the mother ship, but when combined in one brooch: a garish mess!)
The "stem" was actually a link from a very old (pre-1900), very fabulous but very fussy (and very prongy) diamond bracelet which Eytan resized for a customer, keeping a link as payment. The bottom diamond was badly damaged so rather than trying to match the top diamonds, Eytan replaced it with a nice sapphire.
The little 14 karat white gold tri-tipped top piece was the bale from a 1960s birthstone pendant, which Eytan scored and trimmed to match the stem.
