About the Item
Eytan made a pendant like this in 2020 using some stray 18k discs and tubes that he had acquired so long ago he doesn't remember where they came from. That pendant sold immediately, but it was basically a one-off since he had 15 stray discs and 14 stray tubes and the pendant used up all of them.
But Eytan has been making jewelry for almost fifty years and in fifty years, things get moved around, stuff gets separated, boxes get shoved here, envelopes get shoved there, the moon waxes and wanes, and before you know it, your shop is like an advent calendar -- behind every door is a treasure! (Unless you actually need to find something, in which case it's a dystopian hellscape).
So wouldn't you know it, a cruddy old envelope filled with more of the same 30+/- year-old 18 karat gold discs and tubes shows up! Since Eytan really liked the first pendant, he decided to make another one, though this latest version is heavier, with a more substantial bale, and the spinel drop is a new addition.
The bale is more vintage shop stuff -- a nice triangular bale that folds over the thick 18 karat gold wire that threads through the discs and tubes, ending up inside the spinel drop on the bottom.
All these old findings and doo-dads combine to produce a very modern, distinctive and architectural pendant, 2-1/2" long with over 7 grams of 18 karat gold.
For the chain, we used more spinel (we love spinel around here) -- tiny shiny black cube beads strung on gold-colored silk with knots between each bead. The closure is yet more shop recycling -- an old bayonet clasp in 14 karat gold. The chain slips easily out of the pendant's roomy bale, so you can mix or match. As with most of our pendants, we are happy to sell just the pendant without the chain, and if you would like us to source a different type of chain for you, we're happy to do that too. Mechanical watch movements are amazing. Every jeweler has a zillion of them, since the cases are frequently melted for their metal value.
