About Dry Creek Turquoise
Also known as Sacred Buffalo turquoise, the Dry Creek mine is a small deposit in Lander County, Nevada, discovered by the Shoshone Indian tribe in the early 1990s. Initially mistaken for another mineral due to its unusual pale color, lab testing confirmed its authenticity in 1999.
Dry Creek turquoise is prized for its rare pale blue hue, a result of naturally low concentrations of copper and aluminum in the soil. Unlike other pale turquoise varieties, which tend to be soft or chalky, Dry Creek turquoise is naturally hard and polishes beautifully without treatment.
Following the mine owner’s passing, the material became scarce due to family disputes. Most of the high-quality turquoise available today was mined in the 1990s, making it highly sought-after and exceptionally valuable. No other deposits of this unique turquoise have been discovered worldwide, further enhancing its rarity.

Sterling Silver Handmade Vintage Bisbee Turquoise Squash Blossom Necklace
Located in Scottsdale, AZ
An astonishing seventeen perfectly matched natural Bisbee turquoise cabochons were used to create this super rare squash blossom necklace. Today, due to the scarcity of the turquoise the necklace would not be able to be made. Each of the large specimens is the signature look of the lavender pit of the mine, deep Bisbee blue with reddish brown and purple matrix. The quality of the silver work is a great testament to the rarity and beauty of the stone. It is strung with beautiful handmade silver beads and is very wearable.
Bisbee mine turquoise was one of the first to appear for sale on the modern American market, which is at least partly responsible for its fame. The turquoise mine was a secondary operation to the Bisbee copper mine, operated by the Phelps Dodge Corporation. The vast majority of Bisbee turquoise surfaced when the Phelps Dodge started their open pit...
