About the Item
Guilloché is an engraving technique in which a very precise, intricate pattern is mechanically etched into an underlying material with very fine detail. Most commonly, the Guilloché surface was then enameled and the repetitive, intricate design would show through the colorful enamel to the surface.
A spectacular guilloché pendant necklace from the Victorian (ca1880s) era! Crafted in 14k yellow gold, this necklace begins with a dainty rolo-link chain, which secures with a simple lobster claw clasp, which is stamped with a "585" purity mark. The chain is accompanied by a large, circular locket pendant. Both the front and back of the locket feature guilloché enameling, which incorporates a grayish-blue hue. The center of the locket also features a single bezel-set .20ct old European cut diamond, which displays H/I color and VS1-SI1 clarity. The side of the piece features a discreet latch, which allows the locket to open and close securely. When opened, the locket features 2 compartments, which would allow the wearer to insert sentimental photographs or mementos. The inside rim of the locket is stamped "14". The top of the pendant features a complimentary bail, which allows it to easily slide along the gold chain. A fantastic example of Victorian-era craftsmanship, this locket pendant necklace would make a great addition to any antique jewelry collection!
Measurements:The chain has a total length of 15". The locket pendant has a width of 1 3/8" and a height of 1 5/8" (including the complimentary bail).
Condition:The overall condition of the pendant necklace excellent. There is no apparent damage to the gold chain, and the lobster claw clasp is secure and in working order. There is no apparent damage to the guilloché detailing, and the diamond is intact and securely set. The locket opens and closes securely.
