About the Item
A Victorian blue enamel pair of earrings and locket, the oval drop set with pearl and diamond-set stylised Byzantine cross beneath gold scrolling runs, with matching locket, circa 1860, measuring approximately 3.6cm, gross weight 37.1 grams.
This wonderful matching earrings and locket set comes from the collection of Bentley
Skinner, the London jewellers by appointment to His Majesty King Charles III. The locket features a royal blue enamel background, on which is set an ornate byzantine cross set with diamonds and pearls. The earrings feature a matching enamel oval with identical crosses, suspended from a detailed scrolled gold mount. This set exemplifies the mid-Victorian Gothic revival style, which drew inspiration from the ornate Christian iconography of the Medieval era.
