About the Item
This is a gorgeous Belle Epoque - Victorian Bohemian Garnet Locket Pendant or Brooch in a stunning star motif. The early oval locket pendant is adorned with three layers of faceted garnets. The garnets are pear shape and round and are of absolutely magnificent blood red color. I cannot say enough about the color of these Bohemian Garnets. The fabulous cuts of the gems give them extraordinary brilliance. The shape of the star motif locket is absolutely wonderful. The garnets are set in Silver Gilt as was the custom of the Bohemian jewelers in the 19th Century.
The reverse has a locket compartment with glass cover with a hinge to open so you may place your favorite photo or memento. The locket pendant has a hinged retractable bale so when worn as a brooch the bale is not visible. The locket dates to the Victorian - Belle Epoque periods, circa 1860-1890.
The vivid blood red color of Garnets has symbolized love and devotion through the ages. Garnets also signify protection, friendship, and trust and garnets are also said to keep the wearer safe during travel. Tokens of love and affection such as this gorgeous locket are treasures to be passed down for generations. Garnet lockets are rare and highly coveted. We are thrilled to be able to offer this fabulous example.
The locket pendant is 1 1/2 inches (3.8 cm) tall. The locket is 1 3/8 inches (3.3 cm) wide.
The locket opening on the reverse is 17mm by 14mm.
