A spectacular antique Victorian lion, panther, leopard or tiger locket and chain in 14 Karat Gold with an Old Mine Cut Diamond in the mouth and Ruby cabochons in the eyes, in an extraordinary three-dimensional design. One of the most spectacular antique animal motif lockets we have every seen. The locket is a dramatic large size. It is antique and dates to the Belle Epoque, Victorian period. The locket has a magnificently modeled three dimensional lion, leopard or panther in 14 Karat Gold with two Ruby cabochon eyes and an Old Mine Cut Diamond in the mouth. The diamond is a radiant gem of approximately .15 Carats with the beautiful sparkle of the antique diamonds that we are so fond of. We love our panther, lion, cat jewelry and this one is the finest we have seen. The repousse raised and engraved gold work creates a magnificent image of the big cat with gorgeous details. The long teeth that clasp the sparkling diamond and the open mouth behind the teeth are something I have never seen before. The reverse has a beautifully done Victorian engraved monogram. The locket opens to reveal places for two photos. It has the original inserts and both covers for the photos intact. The dramatic lion, tiger, panther dances delightfully around the neck on a beautiful antique 14 Karat Gold Chain and creates a conversation piece to be passed on for generations. Animal inspired jewels as well as lockets are all the rage today and finding one of this quality is just a dream. The locket dates to circa 1860 - 1910. The locket is 1.5 inches (40mm) tall including the bale and is 1 3/8 inches (30mm) wide. The necklace chain is 17 inches long and is hallmarked 14K. Diamond: 1 Old Mine Cut Diamond, approximately .15 Carats, 3.5mm in diameter. Color: Approximately G-H-I The necklace weighs 14.3 grams.
