About the Item
This is a rare antique Victorian Snake Pendant Necklace depicting a snake or serpent wrapped around an egg or globe. The snake is beautifully created in 14 Karat yellow gold. The egg or globe is a gorgeous Baroque Pearl of a stunning silver color. The snake pendant dates to circa 1850-1900. It is extremely rare to find these early snake jewels and we are so excited when we do. The combination of the stunning rendering of the golden snake with the silvery white hues of the natural baroque pearl create a wonderful antique jewel that is full of both drama and whimsy and the power and beauty of the natural world.
And snake jewelry is all the rage today. In the Victorian era the snake was the symbol of eternal love. It has come to symbolize sexuality, rebirth and wisdom.
The snake pendant is 1 1/8 inches (30mm) long with the bales. The snake portion without the bales is 23mm long. The snake is 11mm wide.
The pendant is hallmarked 14K with a makers mark.
The pendant weighs 2.5 grams.
