This is a gorgeous and very rare antique Victorian bird dove locket pendant brooch in 14 Karat Gold adorned with Turquoise and Pearls in an extraordinary three-dimensional design of a flower basket bouquet with a flying bird. The locket is one of the most beautiful antique animal, bird motif lockets we have seen. The locket is a wonderful size. It is antique and dates to the Belle Epoque, Victorian period. The locket has a magnificently modeled three dimensional flying bird amongst a bouquet of flowers in a basket. The flowers, bird and basket are adorned with turquoise cabochons as well as silvery white pearls. The flower bouquet and bird are fully three dimensional. The gold work on the front is set on a crystal cover. The locket opens on the reverse so that you may place a favorite photo, memento or keepsake. The locket also has its original pin stem to be worn as a brooch pin if desired. The romantic bird and flower locket dances delightfully around the neck and creates a conversation piece to be passed on for generations. Animal and bird inspired jewels as well as lockets are all the rage today and finding one of this quality is just a dream. The locket dates to circa 1850 - 1900. During the Victorian period jewelry with birds was often given to signify love and constancy across both distance and time. Jewelry featuring birds was often given to young couples or exchanged between them on their wedding day, and was worn by both men and women. The locket is 2 5/8 inches (7 cm) tall including the bales. It is 1 1/4 inches (32mm) wide. The opening for photo or memento is 30mm by 22mm by 4mm deep. The locket is 14 Karat Gold. The locket weighs 16 grams. There is a tiny turquoise missing from the tail of the bird which can be easily replaced if desired. One flower petal is missing from the top flower. We have left the piece in its original period condition as we believe the piece is beautiful in its this form. The leaf could be restored if desired. The listing is only for the locket pendant. The chain is only shown for display.
