About the Item
COX's celestial pocket globe made up of twelve gores and laid to the ecliptic poles, the axis through the celestial poles, the equatorial graduated in degrees, hours and minutes, the colures graduated in degrees, the houses of the Zodiac, some named, the constellations depicted by green line boundarie.
Two metal axis pines to poles allow the globe to spin in a card bound case with lid.
8.8 x 8.5 x 8.5cm.
Pocket globes became fashionable from the 18th century onwards, particularly in England. James Cox and Nathaniel Hill were among the most important manufacturers of these miniatures.

Dial: The white enamel dial with Roman numerals outer minute track, the subsidiary date dial located at twelve o'clock. The phases of the moon are located at six o'clock together with the seconds dial. The day aperture is located at nine o'clock and the month aperture is located at three o'clock. The rose gold coloured Louis XVI style hands with blued steel centre second chronograph hand.
Case: The heavy (150grm) 18ct rose gold case full hunter case with plain front and back covers. The inner cover is engraved with the medals won at the Paris, Geneve and Chicago Exhibitions together with a full explanation of the movement and the makers name. The cases are all fully Swiss Hallmarked and numbered.

A heavy English minute repeater chronograph 18ct yellow gold keyless lever full hunter pocket watch, C1898.
Dial: The white enamel with Roman numerals, outer minute track with Arabic numerals. The subsidiary seconds dial is located at six o'clock and the minute recorder dial for the stopwatch is located at twelve o'clock. The original blued steel hands with a gold centre second hand.
Case: The massive English hallmarked 18ct yellow gold case (198grm) with plain front and back covers. The slide for the repeater is on the side of the case. The inner cuvette has an interesting inscription stating that the watch was gifted as a Token of respect and goodwill to Brother R. Kelly by fellow members of a Masonic Lodge in March 1899. The casemaker was Philippe Woodman who worked out of Northampton Square, Clerkenwell London
Movement: The unsigned fully jewelled and numbered movement with part Swiss engraved on the movement meaning that some components were supplied by Swiss watch houses. The chiming of the hours quarters and minutes are very clear. The chronograph mechanism is located under the dial.
