About the Item

Exceptional quality antique Russian vermeil silver and shaded enamel Pan-Slavic Style tea strainer by Nikolai Alekseyev. The handle decorated in dove grey background with exotic floral motifs executed in pink, lavender, puce, orange and peach shaded with indigo, magenta and brown. The strainer with a puce background decorated with lovely curvaceous floral elements in lavender, pink, peach, periwinkle blue, orange and red with shaded decoration in gold, magenta, brown and indigo. A complex work of art requiring eight firings for every time a different color of enamel was added. This piece features a very fine and detailed silver wire work on the borders of the enamel decoration and a traditional Russian silver swirl design element to the center of the handle. Pan Slavic shape design to the enamel handle. Marks: on the side of the handle N. A in Cyrillic, Kokoshnik 84 Nikolai Alekseyev was a highly regarded Russian silversmith whose work is in the State Historical Museum, Moscow and Moscow State Museum.
