THE BRONZE DATES TO THE LATE 19TH TO EARLY 20TH CENTURY AND IS A MASTERPIECE OF VIENNA BRONZE ARTISTRY. THE BRONZE IS FROM ONE OF THE FINEST COLLECTIONS OF AUSTRIAN VIENNA BRONZES ASSEMBLED.
The Frog in bed vignette is one of the finest cold painted Austrian Bronzes you will find. The frog in bed scene is a wonderful size: 1 3/8 inches tall and 2 3/4 inches long and 1 1/2 inches wide.
The superb quality of the bronze is evidenced by the markings of the piece. It is signed Austria and Geschutzt - the early mark for export pieces dating to around 1910-1920. It also bears the mark of the Hermann Heubach foundry.
An "H" within a horseshoe on an Austrian bronze piece signifies a mark indicating the bronze was produced by the "Hermann Heubach" foundry, a renowned Austrian bronze manufacturer active during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
Key points about this mark:
Origin: Hermann Heubach was a prominent bronze caster based in Vienna, Austria.
Significance: This mark is often seen on decorative "cold-painted bronzes," a style where the bronze sculptures were finished with vibrant, unfired paints.
Identifying feature: The horseshoe shape with the "H" inside is a distinct identifier for Heubach pieces.
