A necessity during the Victorian Era, hat pins not only balanced precarious hats atop piles of hair but also moonlighted as weapons against overzealous gentlemen. Though teetering hats are no longer de rigeur, glorious century-plus-old pins such as these can be pierced through modern hats as statement accessories or even arranged in the hair like chopsticks. This outrageous set taken from a 1930s hat features oversized 1 ¼” “lightbulbs” atop bright gold stems to create an accessories worthy of standing on their own. Set of two 5” hat pins with bright gold stems; giant 1 ¼” silver enamel “lightbulb” finials atop gold “screw” bases. material: enamel, resin, goldtone metal noteworthy: gently clean with damp cloth repairs: re-enameled bulbs condition: very good with one discrete dent on one bulb and gentle tarnish on stems measurements: length: 4” (stem), 1” (finial) finial diameter: 1 ¼” signature: no signature present
